Why do Filipinos observed the celebration of Chinese New Year??
Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is primarily held and celebrated in the country every year. Why is it being celebrated here in the Philippines? Because it is known for its rich cultural diversity, one of the most prominent influences comes from the Chinese people. Mostly in the cities that have a large population, such as Davao, Manila, and Cebu. Also, it has a deep history and cultural communications between Chinese and Filipinos.
The reason why it is being celebrated as Chinese New Year in the country is because many Chinese immigrants were here in the Philippines long ago, bringing their beliefs, traditions, and values. Filipinos observe Chinese New Year as the significant Chinese-Filipino population and being appreciated by the good fortune and prosperity. Filipinos participate in occasional activities such as dragon and lion dances, lucky charms, fireworks displays, food customs like tikoy and feng shui, and the giving of ang pao (red envelopes with money), which symbolize good luck and prosperity.
In conclusion, the celebration of Chinese New Year is exquisite; it becomes the occasion that is part of Filipino culture for every year’s celebration and also reflects the country’s inclusive and festive enjoyment. Chinese New Year has the unity and spirit that it will bring to many people’s enjoyment.
