Every month of February, the province of Ilocos Sur celebrates the Kannawidan Festival. It established as a province in 1818 and commemorates as the founding anniversary of Ilocos Sur. Kannawidan Festival stands as the grand celebration of the rich culture, heritage, local products, and traditions. It preserves and promotes the culture and traditions in the province. Through this festival, it has a lot of features, as well as the trade fair, where you can see a lot of products of every municipality in the province, the province's agricultural products, and local products including cauliflower, abel iloco, empanada, bagnet, longganisa, and basi. These products have a significant role; they contributed to the local economy.
Another feature is the cultural performances, such as street dancing competitions, beauty pageants, and sports events like dancesports, motor racing, etc. One of the highlights is the Miss Ilocos Sur, a prestigious pageant that crowns ambassadors of the provinces' culture and tourism. The Float Parade is also one of the most anticipated events, showcasing the culture, traditions, and industries through creative design floats. These events promote local tourism and preserve the Ilocano heritage. These celebrations foster unity among the Ilocanos and instill a sense of pride.
